The Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra is all about feeling. This makes sense when you think about where it's located: it is two inches below the navel and two inches into the pelvis. In fact, its glandular connection is to the ovaries and testes. Emotions, though, aren't the only focus—it also controls our physical health and well-being.
I think sometimes in the past I've had a hard time connecting with the Sacral Chakra. My emotions were erratic, and it's interesting to see how my irregular periods seemed to correlate with this as well. However, over the years I've become more emotionally balanced, as have my cycles. I feel like the Sacral Chakra very much embodies the concept of "control it before it controls you."
One thing that The Book of Chakras by Ambika Wauters mentions about the Sacral Chakra is:
"It controls our motion and our emotions, and is ruled by the water element, which is directly influenced by how we experience our emotions. When we retain our feelings, water is also retained in the body. This creates bloating and puffiness, a condition known as idiopathic edema."
As someone who heavily bloats around her luteal phase, I completely agree with this observation.
I think another great point in The Book of Chakras about the Sacral is:
"It controls our appetites for food, sex, and pleasure. If we are too indulgent we burn up vital fuel required by other systems in our body. If we hold back too much energy from the physical part of our lives, we become hungry for what we deny ourselves. Finding the balance between control and letting go is essential for this chakra to function."

When it comes to archetypes, the positive archetype is the Emperor/Empress, or someone who knows how to appreciate the finer things in life. They are abundant and indulge in a high degree of pleasure.
On the opposite end, the negative archetype would be the Martyr. This is someone who deprives themselves of all pleasure in life. Another important point about them is that they are full of guilt, and so they project this onto others. As the saying goes, misery loves company.
Embrace your Sacral Chakra, eat some ice cream (if you can!), and enjoy the finer things in life*
